Brick Calculator — How Many Bricks per m² of Wall

The calculator divides total wall area by the exposed face of one brick plus its 10 mm mortar joint, then applies your waste percentage. With standard 215 × 102.5 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm joints, a single-skin (102.5 mm) wall uses about 60 bricks per m²; half-brick walls in thinner formats drop to 50-55. Mortar follows the brick count at roughly 0.5 m³ per 1000 bricks mixed 1:4. Worked example: a 20 m² garden wall needs 1200 bricks; with 5% breakage order 1260 plus 0.6 m³ of mortar - about 8 bags of cement and 0.45 m³ of sand. Soak highly absorbent bricks before laying so they do not steal water from the mortar.
