  Julian and Ethiopian dates do not map one-to-one — the two systems start from different epochs and count leap years differently, so enter the full Julian date and read the Ethiopian equivalent instead of shifting the year by a fixed offset.

  Watch century boundaries and very old dates in the Julian–Ethiopian system: historical calendars dropped or added days when they were adopted, which is invisible in daily use but material for long-range historical calculations here.

  Leap rules differ between the calendars behind Julian–Ethiopian, so a span that looks like whole years in one system can land a day or two off in another; trust the converted result rather than a fixed mental offset.

• The Julian and Ethiopian calendars differ in year length and leap pattern, so a fixed-day offset — 365, 354, any memorized constant — drifts the Ethiopian date badly. Convert the complete date so both leap rules apply.

• Anniversaries do not survive conversion unchanged: a Julian date maps to a fixed Ethiopian date, but next year's Julian anniversary lands on a different Ethiopian date. Reconvert each occurrence instead of adding one year to the last result.
