Assignment Weight Grade Calculator

Quick answer

See how one assignment moves your average.

  • Enter current average, the assignment grade, and its weight for the new mean and letter grade.

Figures are estimates from this calculator’s standard formula — adjust the inputs in the tool below for your exact number.

How the Assignment Weight Calculator Works

new average = current x (1 - weight) + grade x weight

A weighted grade replaces that share of your average. The tool blends your current mean with the assignment score and reports the change and letter grade.

  1. 1

    Enter current average

Type your average so far, for example 88.

  2. 2

    Enter assignment grade

Give the score you earned, like 95.

  3. 3

    Enter its weight

State how much it counts, such as 20 percent.

FAQs

How does a 95 at 20% change an 88 average?

New average = 88 x 0.8 + 95 x 0.2 = 89.4, a gain of 1.4 points, still a B letter grade.

What does a perfect 100 at 25% do to a 78?

78 x 0.75 + 100 x 0.25 = 83.5, jumping 5.5 points and crossing into B territory.

How badly does a 60 at 30% hurt a 90 average?

90 x 0.7 + 60 x 0.3 = 81, a drop of 9 points — weighted work protects or sinks you fast.

When does the letter grade change to A?

At 90 or above: from 87 at 20% weight you need (90 - 69.6) / 0.2 = 102, so usually an A stays out of reach.
