Figures are estimates from this calculator’s standard formula — adjust the inputs in the tool below for your exact number.

How the checkout-currency chooser works

Implied rate = local price ÷ USD price; markup = (implied − mid-market) ÷ mid-market

When you pick your local currency at checkout, AliExpress converts the total at its own rate, which usually embeds a markup over the mid-market rate. We fetch the same product’s price in USD and in your currency at the same moment, derive AliExpress’s implied rate, compare it with the daily mid-market rate, then weigh paying directly in your currency against paying in USD with your card’s FX fee.

FAQs

Why can paying in USD be cheaper?

When you choose your local currency, AliExpress converts the amount at a rate it sets, which typically includes a markup over the mid-market rate. If you choose USD, your own bank does the conversion — and many card fees (around 2%) are lower than AliExpress’s markup.

What is the “AliExpress implied rate”?

It is the product’s price in your local currency divided by its USD price, for the same item at the same moment — the rate AliExpress actually applies to your wallet. We compare it with the daily mid-market rate to expose the markup.

Where does the mid-market rate come from?

A free daily exchange-rate service (updated once a day, covering every currency we offer). If it cannot be fetched, the tool asks you to type it from any rates site — it never invents a number.

What if my card charges a high FX fee?

Change “Your card FX fee %” to match your card’s terms. If your bank’s fee exceeds AliExpress’s markup, the verdict will honestly say that paying in your local currency is cheaper.
