How Does the Landed-Cost Calculator Work?

Landed cost = items + shipping + duty + VAT | Duty = (items + shipping) × duty % | VAT = (items + shipping + duty) × VAT %

The landed cost of an AliExpress order is the customs value (items + shipping) plus customs duty and VAT. Duty is a percentage of the customs value that depends on the destination country and item category; VAT is then charged on the customs value including the duty — the near-universal rule. Example: $200 of electronics shipped to Saudi Arabia pays about 5% duty (SAR 39 on a SAR 790 consignment) and 15% VAT on top, landing near SAR 961. Small consignments may qualify for a duty or tax exemption — the tool applies each country’s verified thresholds automatically.

Does AliExpress shipping include customs duty?

No. Duty and VAT are usually collected separately — by the carrier or at the border — and are not part of the price you pay AliExpress. This calculator adds them so you see the real total.

What is customs duty based on?

Usually the CIF value: items + shipping. The rate depends on the destination country and the product’s HS tariff line; the built-in estimates are broad consumer-goods bands you can override.

Why is VAT charged on the duty too?

In almost every country the VAT base for imports is the customs value plus any duty owed, so the tax compounds. The calculator follows that rule.

Are small parcels exempt from duty and VAT?

Sometimes. Many countries have de-minimis thresholds — e.g. goods under $75 to Israel, consignments under SAR 1,000 to Saudi Arabia duty-free. The tool applies the thresholds it has verified and tells you when a country’s rules are not included.

How accurate are the estimates?

Rates are rough estimates captured 2026-10. Real charges depend on the exact tariff line and carrier brokerage fees — check your customs authority before relying on the numbers.
