AliExpress Shipping Method Comparator — Cost × Speed × Customs

Quick answer

Choice vs Standard vs economy vs DHL: rank the four shipping methods by destination and item price — cost band, ETA, who handles customs, days-per-dollar.

Figures are estimates from this calculator’s standard formula — adjust the inputs in the tool below for your exact number.

How does the shipping comparator work?

For each method: shipping cost (band) + arrival days (median and P90 from the method-and-country table) + a customs rating. The result is a ranking of 4 with a 0–100 score weighted by your priority, plus “days per dollar” = median days ÷ cost-band midpoint.

We built an editorial table from courier-aggregator statistics and AliExpress help pages: Choice is fast-ish free consolidated shipping with VAT usually prepaid on Gulf lanes; Standard is tracked and middle-of-the-road; economy is cheapest, slowest and highest customs risk because it is unbrokered post; express (DHL and friends) is fastest but the courier clears customs itself and bills duties plus a brokerage fee on delivery. We min–max normalise cost and days across the four options and blend them by your priority (cheapest 80/20, fastest 20/80, balanced 50/50), subtracting customs-risk and limited-availability penalties — so “free” and “fastest” don’t automatically win.

  1. 1

Step 1: pick destination and price

The country changes the days (the Gulf is faster via consolidated lanes, North Africa slower) and availability: Choice is limited outside the Gulf.

  2. 2

    Step 2: choose your priority

Cheapest, fastest or balanced — the ranking and each method’s score shift with it.

  3. 3

Step 3: read the ranked table

Each method shows its shipping-cost band, arrival days (median to realistic worst case), who clears customs and what may be billed on delivery, and the estimated total excluding duties.

FAQs

Is DHL or FedEx from AliExpress actually faster?

Yes — typically 5–12 days including handling. But beware: the courier clears customs itself quickly, then bills you the duties plus a brokerage/disbursement fee that can exceed $15 alone — so the real cost is higher than the listed shipping price.

What is “days per dollar”?

A simple speed-per-money metric: median arrival days ÷ the midpoint of the shipping-cost band (floored at one dollar so it never divides by zero). A smaller number means more speed for every shipping dollar.

Why does Choice show “limited availability” in my country?

Choice rides on consolidated shipping lanes that serve the Gulf primarily; outside it (Egypt, Morocco and others) Choice-eligible stores are rare. We keep the option with a warning instead of hiding it, since you may still find one.

Are these live AliExpress shipping prices?

No — cost is an editorial band, timing a statistical estimate (median and P90), and customs risk a qualitative rating. Real shipping depends on parcel weight, the seller and checkout-time offers; use the tool to understand the trade-off shape, not as a final quote.
